Opening a ReqIF Archive

After adding or selecting a ReqIF Archive inside your My ReqIFs folder, the right hand Details window will update to show archive level information and the following components will appear below the archive in the tree window.

  • One or more ReqIF Files
  • A SpecRelations folder

A ReqIF archive must contain at least one ReqIF file. Each of these ReqIF files will have its own content.

Below the Details window is the Validation window. Ideally this window will be empty but should any of the ReqIF files inside the archive contain errors, these will be reported here. For more information about the Validation window, see Validation Overview.

Details shown for a ReqIF Archive

The Details window will show the following information:

File

Full path to the archive in your file system.

File Summary Table

This table shows the following information for each ReqIF file:

  • Filename - the name of the ReqIF file. This field is hyperlinked for easy ReqIF File.
  • Specifications - the total number of Specifications
  • SpecObjects - the total number of SpecObjects
  • SpecRelations - the total number of SpecRelations
  • DatatypeDefinitions - the total number of DatatypeDefinitions

The relative path of every image file that is contained in the archive is listed in this table. Click on any of the image paths to open and view the image.

OLE Summary Table

This table shows all OLE documents in the archive. This is similar to the Image Summary Table except that the following additional information is also displayed:

  • MIME type - the MIME type of the document
  • Extension - the extension of the document
  • Representational Image Path - the associated representational image

Unreferenced File Summary Table

This table show all files (images and OLE) that have been located but are not referenced in any SpecObject XHTML attribute value. An unreferenced file is not a deviation from the specification but use this table as an alert that may need attention.

Missing Image Summary Table

This table shows all images that are referenced by a SpecObject XHTML attribute value but are not located in the archive. Any entry in this table is an indication of an error that should be investigated.

Missing OLE Summary Table

Similar to the Missing Image Summary Table, this table shows all OLE documents that are referenced by a SpecObject XHTML attribute value but are not located in the archive. Any entry in this table is also an indication of an error that should be investigated.

The SpecRelations Folder

The SpecRelations folder will contain every SpecRelation that is defined across all ReqIF files. Since SpecRelations can be defined in each ReqIF file and a SpecRelation can span multiple ReqIF files, it is convenient for the purpose of filtering to see all defined SpecRelations in a single folder.
